Frequently Asked Questions

Please read all of this FAQ page before you e-mail me with questions.

Q: Can you make me a custom weapon?
A: Yes. All my weapons are custom-made, even the generic weapons I donate.

Q: I want a cool weapon. Can you make me one?
A: I really hate this question, because everyone wants a “cool” weapon. The problem is that each person has a different idea of what “cool” is. Please clarify you request by saying something like, “I think Scottish Claymores are really cool. Can you make me one?”

Q: I don’t have much money. Can you make me an inexpensive weapon?
A: Yes. I charge for the cost of materials, plus $10 per hour, so I can make a simple weapon for about $30.

Q: Will you show me how to build a weapon of my own?
A: Please take a look at my How to Build Weapons page.

Q: I want a really fancy, custom weapon. Can you do that, and how much will it cost?
A: The cost of the weapon will depend on how long it will take to make. I will send an estimate of the cost along with a sketch of what I think you want. Remember, my policy is “If I can draw it, I can build it.”

Q: What kind of weapons do you make?
A: I make everything from long- and short-swords to shields, pole-arms and blunt weapons such as axes and maces.

Q: Will you make me a shield and paint it?
A: Yes, I do paint shields. Please remember that I’m an Architecture student and not an Art major, so my designs are fairly simple. I can paint a stylized wolf, but not a photorealistic one. The Artistic Sarrs are much better than I am at painting shields.

Q: I want a weapon in an unusual color. Can you do that?
A: I have access to Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Brown, Black, White and Grey Duct Tape. I can also make a Silver weapon, but since the tape is hard to find, I charge extra for it. I can also use glow-in-the-dark tape as an accent.

Q: I don’t live in New England. Can you mail me a weapon?
A: No. Mailing weapons leads to damaged weapons. I no longer will take mail-order requests.

Q: My team wants matching weapons. Will you give us a discount?
A: Yes, I will give a partial discount for orders of five or more weapons.

Q: How long will it take before I have my weapon?
A: I like to have at least two weeks to complete an order, in case I have to work around homework or tests, or need to order extra parts. If I’m in the middle of Finals or my core order is late, I will e-mail you with an explanation of the problem. Sometimes my orders are also delayed because other people asked me to make them weapons before you did and I’m finishing their orders.

Q: I live in the area and want my weapon this Friday. Can you have it done in time?
A: Maybe. I don’t like to take rush orders because rushing leads to sloppy work. IF I have all the materials and IF I don’t have too much homework and IF I don’t have other orders to complete, then I will rush your order for an additional charge.

Q: The weapon I bought from you didn’t pass its Safety Check. Will you fix it?
A: Only if the weapon fails on its first safety inspection. You must tell me exactly what is wrong with the weapon, and I will fix it at no additional charge. I will only do this if the weapon fails its first safety inspection. If I examine the weapon and it has been damaged by excessively hard blows or you have not stored it properly, I will not repair your weapon for free.

Q: Do your weapons have a warranty?
A: No. I used to have a 1-year warranty policy on my weapons, but too many people abused this privilege.

Q: So, how do I store a weapon safely?
A: You should store your weapons in a flat, dry place where they will not have anything resting on top of them. I used to keep mine under my bed on a folded blanket so that the foam would not be crushed. You should also be careful when using the weapon at a game, as excessively hard swings and "tip fighting" will destroy your weapon quickly.

Q: I want a weapon out of The Lord of the Rings, Final Fantasy, or another movie/comic/book/vide game. Will you make me one?
A: No. To copy a weapon that somebody else has designed would be breaking International Copyright Law. I will not make, sell or give such a weapon to you at any price, because I could be sued for copyright infringement. Please note that it is perfectly acceptable for me to reproduce a historical weapon, or anything designed more than 85 years ago. You can see an example of this in my gallery picture of the historically accurate sword from Braveheart. Weapon catalogues such as Museum Replicas are a good source if you want ideas for an unusual weapon. If you come up with an original idea for a weapon and can either draw it or have me draw a picture of it, I can build it.

Q: So, how do I get you to build me something?
A: You can send an e-mail to anasmichele at gmail dot com. Please include something like “Weapon Order” in the Subject so that I don’t mistake your e-mail for spam. I tend to return e-mails within 24 hours, unless I'm LARPing that weekend or am in the midst of Finals. We can then work out the details by e-mail.
